Academia

David discovered his passion and innate talent for programming at the age of 13 when his parents enrolled him in an after-school computer class. In parallel with his studies, he learned by himself how to develop video games for 8-bit computers. That led him at the age of 17 to have a meeting in London with managers from Konami, one of the most important video game developers at that time, to present his work and explore job opportunities. Too young to leave his studies, he decided to prioritize his university career in Telecommunications Engineering to continue his education.

At the University, his programming skills helped him to succeed in the Digital Image Processing Department. He did his graduation project in that department and his first salary was a scholarship to finance his research in computer vision. At 25 years old and with a brilliant academic record (Top 5% of the year), making the jump to a big company or consulting firm would have seemed the most logical move, but at that time science was too much fun for him not to want to continue enjoying it for a while longer. His great discovery, however, would be the spontaneous manifestation of an entrepreneurial and creative spirit that would end up conditioning –for the better– his entire career.

Entrepreneurship

For two years he was developing digital image processing software for printers, graphic designers and 3D artists. These applications and the fact that he started to move around the entrepreneurship support forums in Barcelona gave him the opportunity to meet mentors, business angels and finally raise venture capital funding for technology based projects at a time when that was a minority and pioneering activity.

With the help of his incipient support network, he won awards related to entrepreneurship (finalist of Emprendedores-e 99 and winner of InnoBIT 2001) and learned skills that went beyond his initial talent as a programmer: strategy, negotiation, digital marketing, Ecommerce, sales and internationalization. He founded a company called Imagiam dedicated to continuing the development and commercial exploitation of his software applications. He learned to collaborate and seek partners. He had some interesting successes and made many beginner's mistakes that taught him important lessons. There is no magic formula for successful entrepreneurship, but listening to customers, differentiating oneself, innovating, establishing partnerships and persevering helps to achieve goals.

At present

Today, Imagiam is one of the global references in the 3D lenticular printing niche. His software has been successfully tested and validated in the demo centers of the world's leading printing equipment manufacturers, such as HP, Epson, Heidelberg, KBA, Canon and Fujifilm, and is sold in more than 65 countries.

But one of the recent activities that is proving to be most rewarding and enriching, both personally and professionally, is entrepreneurship and digital transformation mentoring. He has found that his long experience as a technology based entrepreneur is proving very useful to others starting up now or to traditional businesses that want to go digital effectively. David has the initiative, imagination and vision to provide solutions in the digital part, and the ability to understand the complex personal and motivational part that boils down to every entrepreneur. He is excited to work with talented people in a loyal and honest way because sooner or later extraordinary things happen. He believes in people as a critical factor of progress.
